A 30-minute DVD about the Russian Orthodox Church is now available for
the first time in Chinese, through the sponsorship of the Russian Consulate General in Shanghai. This Orthodox movie is directed by Mr. Konuhov and produced by PITA company of Russia through the consultation of Fr Dionisy Pozdnyaev with sceneries taken by Mr. A. Pozdnyaev.
The Chinese narrator, Sun Yue, introduces the viewer to the apostolic roots of the Russian Orthodox Church, beginning with the birthplace of Christianity, with modern sceneries of Jerusalem and the Holy Land. The film also traced the missionary expansion eastward into Russia, covering the miraculous survival of the Orthodox Church in the midst of the Bolshevik Revolution and persecution under the Soviet regime. Video clips of more recent events are shown such as the revival of Orthodoxy in the modern day Russia Federation after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. Examples of Orthodoxy transfiguring all sectors of Russian society and government were prominent in the movie as well. The movie even covered the most recent World Summit of Religious Leaders in Moscow, hosted by the Russian Orthodox Church in July, 2006.
This movie can be of interest not only for Orthodox believers, but also for
scholars and officials studying Orthodox History and Russian culture. This film, ordered by the Brotherhood of Sts Peter and Paul in Hong Kong, had its first prescreening in Triuggio, Milan during the 7th European Catholic China Europe Colloquium (ECCC) on September 9, 2006.
The DVD has been converted to a lower-quality online video for all to preview at www.orthodox.cn/multimedia. For those who do not have fast internet access, or wish for a higher quality video, a limited number of DVDs is available upon request from Fr Dionisy Pozdnyaev at firstname.lastname@example.org, with a free-will offering made payable to "The Orthodox Brotherhood of Apostles Saints Peter and Paul (Moscow Patriarchate)" and mail to:
